ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST

District Office

8 hours per day, 260 days per year

Salary: $24.14 - $30.52 per hour

 

SUMMARY: Perform district-wide accounts payable, accounts receivable, travel and procurement card functions. Receipt district funds, invoice for goods and services, process district travel requests, and reconcile bank accounts. Provide user support for purchase order and vendor information within the district. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Processes invoices for payment; Matches vendor invoices, packing slips and purchase orders for payment processing; Reviews documents for completion and accuracy; Audits expenditures for compliance with appropriate rules, regulations and district policies and procedures;  Inputs payable information into computer, runs total of invoices, verifies invoice totals against batch totals; Runs check processing steps in electronic A/P system; prepares backup documentation for school board approval, distributes checks to vendors; Reviews vendor statements for unpaid bills and resolve, as necessary; Manages and maintains procurement cards used for district purchases; Receipts and deposits cash and checks received at district office; Maintains district banking accounts, reconciles at end of month, provides fund deposit reports for monthly investments, and transmits to County Treasurer; Processes purchase orders for all district purchases, including new vendor set up and 1099 verification; Processes invoices for facility use, transportation and other activities, as needed; Manages district accounts receivable, including aging reports, process for collections as necessary; Processes travel requests; verify signatures and account codes; Audits travel expense vouchers for compliance with rules & regulations, processes for payment; Prepares journal entries to correct errors in accounting transactions as needed; Assists with 1099 annual reporting; perform other dutes as necessary or as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred; ability to type 50 wpm; demonstrated 10-key skills preferred; previous school district or public entities business experience preferred; general knowledge of accepted accounting practices required; experience with database systems, Excel spreadsheets and Google Docs required, Skyward experience preferred. Ability to communicate in a professional manner, work effectively with other sstaff members, and have posititve public relation skills.  Ability to work with frequent interruptions, engage in tasks and priorities based on the needs of the department/District. Meeting deadlines is an essention function of this position. Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and produce quality work. Attendance and punctuality are important functions of this position.

Paid leave benefits include 12 days of sick leave, 2 personal leave days, 14 holidays and 12 vacation days. 

 

Benefits may be prorated based upon date of hire/hours per day.
