Qualifications & Requirements
- Food Service Substitutes will need a current food handlers card. Please attach a copy to your application or submit it with the supplemental paperwork.
- High School diploma, or equivalent
- Cleared fingerprints from Washington State Patrol and the FBI on file with OSPI. To make a fingerprint appointment call the ESD at 665-2610. There is a $88.25 charge. **This cost is the responsibility of the substitute**
- Complete yearly Safe Schools online WSD safeschools training yearly, upon getting on the sub list.
- Send SMDR forms to any school district or daycare/learning center you have work/subbed for. Blank SMDR forms can be found on the District website.
- After receiving supplemental paperwork in your email, complete all forms and return it to the District office
DESCRIPTION: Primarily responsible for ware washing, clean-up duties and set-up of service areas, serving foods and assisting lead server with preparation for meal service as well as operation of computerized point of sale system. Fills in where needed to ensure efficient operation. Must communicate well with the lead server and central kitchen staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assists Lead Elementary Server in heating food items received from central kitchen following writteninstruction or demonstration. Assists Lead Server in setting up hot and cold food stations and service areas with food andsupplies. Serves and oversees student meal service to insure the USDA Child Nutrition requirements for reimbursable meals are being met. Receives and transfers foods and supplies to and from storage areas. Operates computerized Point of Sale system. Washes service wares and kitchen utensils. Recognizes and reports all necessary facilities maintenance promptly. Cleans theproduction areas as necessary. Adheres to all sanitation regulations. Conducts daily inspections of all areas of the facility to ensure compliance with established practices, regulations and standards. Maintains an attitude of flexibility when dealing with everyone to resolve problems with students, staff or production. Communicates with everyone respectfully and courteously. Suggests improvements to operating format. Notifies the kitchen manager of low product levels. Fills in where needed to ensure efficient operations. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold/obtain a valid/current food handler’s permit. High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Ability to relate well to students and staff. Ability to maintain accurate records/reports. Requires physical ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments. Must work in and around fumes and odors. Requires standing, stooping, bending, lifting, turning and reaching. Must maintain a high standard of personal hygiene. Attendance and punctuality are important functions of this position.

Substitutes are employed at will. The District may deactivate a sub from the active sub list at any time, with or without cause or notice and can cancel or deny substitute assignments. A substitute can remove themselves from the active sub list with or without notice and can cancel or deny substitute assignments. No assignment, employee manual, reference guide, board policy, reasonable assurance, other document or oral communication shall be deemed to create an employment contract or to modify the at will relationship. No person other than the School Board has the authority to bind the District to an employment contract or an agreement to modify the at- will relationship.
An active listing on the sub list does not guarantee an assignment. If a reasonable amount of assignments are not worked within a 12 month period a substitute may be inactivated with or without notice.
