English/Language Arts Teacher

1.0 FTE, Non-Continuing Contract (leave replacement)

DESCRIPTION: Plan, implement and evaluate classroom instruction based on the needs of the students while being consistent with building and district curriculum standards. Familiarity with the English/Language Arts Smarter Balanced style assessments.  Ability to align the English GLEs with instructional practice. Skill in working with diverse populations. Plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students using Washington state standards-based materials, teaching strategies, and instructional design.  Work collaboratively and collegially with other teachers.  Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive, and safe environment for learning.  Monitor and evaluate student outcomes. Supervise students in a variety of school-related settings.  Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community members. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.  Maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures and practices.  Attend meetings and conferences as required. Other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Washington state certification with English/Language Arts or appropriate endorsement required.  Journalism teaching experience is preferred. Strong English background.  Excellent communication and technical skills.  Experience working with high school age youth preferred. Teaching experience preferred. Ability to work as a team player and understand the needs of high school students.  May require prolonged sitting or standing. Attendance and punctuality are important functions of this job.
